Monsoon Session: Parliament Will hold Operation Sindoor debate on 29 July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi To Join the Discussion: Sources

Monsoon Session 2025: This is the first time the Rajya Sabha will hold a debate on Operation Sindoor. This session comes amid recent claims by Donald Trump that he mediated a ceasefire in the India-Pakistan conflict.

This debate will be 16 hours long and set to be held on 29 July. According to the sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate in the debate in both Lower and Upper house. 

BJP leader Shamik Bhattacharya will move the motion in the Rajya Sabha.

The house was adjourned for the first three days of the monsoon session due to protest by the opposition for the demand to hold a discussion on operation sindoor. 

Opposition parties have constantly demanded the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the discussion in parliament and asked for a clarification about the recent claims of U.S. President Donald Trump mediated a ceasefire in the conflict, the opposition parties are also demanding a discussion on Bihar “SIR” Issue.

The government has also denied a demand of opposition to start the debate earlier, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Foreign Schedule.

According to the sources, the Government is preparing its case and will present it with “full force”.

Union Minister JP Nadda announced the special Debate on Operation Sindoor and said that the government is ready to discuss and share necessary information with the people of India.

The upcoming debate comes in the days when Donald Trump repeatedly claiming that he brokered a ceasefire between India-Pakistan  conflict. The Indian government has constantly denied these claims and said that the conversation took place on the request of Pakistani DGMO for a ceasefire. 

India launched Operation Sindoor on 7th May in retaliation for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, that killed 26 civilians. The Indian Military has launched precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (POK).
