India-US Relations: Donald Trump said India And Russia Can Take Their Dead Economies Down Together

India-US Relations: US President Donald Trump On Thursday criticized India and Russia and said both nations can take their dead economies down together. Meanwhile Trump has said that the U.S. will impose 20%-25% of tariffs and also extra penalties on India for its ties with Russia.

On his social media platform Donald Trump wrote that” I don’t care what India does with Russia.They can take their economies down together,for all I care. We have done very little business with India. Their tariffs are among the highest in the world. Likewise Russia and the U.S.A do almost no business together. 

The U.S President has also threatened former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev he said “ Let’s keep it that way, and tell Medvedev,the failed former president of Russia who thinks he is still president, to watch his words, he is entering a very dangerous territory. 

His warning to the former Russian President came after he said Donald Trump is playing a very dangerous game with Russia and that could lead to a full scale war with the United states of america if things go like this. 

Previously Donald Trump has announced 25% tariffs on India with an extra penalty for doing business with Russia. Earlier India and U.S were discussing a Inter\im trade deal but both countries failed to reach any agreement. 

Trump has also criticized India for its Defence Deals with Russia he said “India has always bought majority of its military equipment from Russia, They are Russia’s largest buyer of energy along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the killing in the Ukraine. 

India’s Response to the US Tariffs

The Indian ministry of commerce and industry has said that it has taken note of the Statement  given by US President Donald Trump On India-US Bilateral Trade and said the government is studying its implications. 

“The Indian Government attaches the utmost importance to protecting and promoting the welfare of our farmers, entrepreneurs and MSME’s.

The Government will take all the necessary steps to secure the national interest as has been the case with other trade agreements including the latest trade agreement with the United Kingdom, a statement from Indian government Reads.

India-Rusia Trade relations 

The bilateral trade between both the nations stood at $68 Billion IN FY 2024-2025. India has purchased a massive amount of energy from Russia at a discounted price since the Ukraine war has started. 

Russia is a reliable and trusted defence supplier of India. In 2018, India signed a deal for an S-400 air defense system with Russia despite the constant warnings from the United States.
